Bordeaux preparations for Euro 2016 continue

The city of Bordeaux, bathed in sunshine on Monday (6th June), prepares to fulfill its role as a host city for Euro 2016 although, for some, fears over security and the terrorist threat remain.

With the start of Euro 2016 now just days away, the city of Bordeaux is gearing up - in typically relaxed Bordelaise style.

The port city on the Garonne River in south western France is one of several venues for the hotly anticipated tournament.

Famous for its wine industry, parts of its old town are a designated UNESCO World Heritage site, in fact, bar Paris, it's the city with the highest number of preserved historical buildings in France.

Five matches - and one quarter final - will take place at the city's 43,000-seat New Stadium, a venue that has been specially constructed for the event.

Despite a towering Fan Zone and a smattering of Euro 2016 signage there was little to distinguish the city from normal day-to-day life.

There is little in the way of a noticeably enhanced police presence - although that is expected to change decidedly as the competition approaches.

The City's first taste of tournament action will see a Wales side, featuring Gareth Bale, take on Slovakia on June 11.
