Northern Ireland happy to be considered 'underdogs'

2016-06-07 17:33:00 from:SNTV

Northern Ireland on Monday (6th June) held their first open training session and news conference since arriving in France to compete in Euro 2016.

SOUNDBITE: (English) Oliver Norwood, Northern Ireland midfielder (asked what he would say to people that believe Northern Ireland are the underdogs in Group C):

"Let them keep thinking we're the underdogs. We've proven that we belong at the tournament, we've won our (qualifying) group. If people want to see us like that then that's up to them but, we're here, we're excited to be here. We're really looking forward to the tournament now, and can't wait to get going on Sunday."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Chris Baird, Northern Ireland defender (on the team's experience so far):

"Absolutely delighted with everything, from travel arrangements to the facilities, the hotel, the training ground. It's just so real now. Obviously all the build up and that, obviously in Austria and that, you just wanted to get here and get on with it. But now that we're here it's all sunk in now.... it all builds up now to the first game, and it's been fantastic."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Chris Baird, Northern Ireland defender (asked if boredom could be an issue for the team):

"Up until now it's gone quite fast anyway, so we've been doing something day after day after day, so there's not really been time to relax and even get bored and that, so there's always something for us to do. And we're just taking everything in at the minute. We're here now and we can enjoy this week and.... everything now, preparations for Poland now."
