Ukrainian security provide details of foiled terror plot

Vasyl Hrytsak, head of the Security Service of Ukraine, said on Monday (6th June) that "there were 15 terrorist attacks planned" to target France before and during the 2016 European Championships.

SOUNDBITE: (Ukrainian) Vasyl Hrytsak, head of the Security Service of Ukraine:

"We received information that a French citizen who arrived in Ukraine and posed as a volunteer began to establish relations with members of a military battalion in the east of Ukraine. He promised to bring the volunteers supplies. But in the process of communication he demonstrated an interest in buying weapons, explosive materials and other means of destruction in Ukraine. The Frenchman spoke negatively about his government's migration policies, the spread of Islam and globalisation. He also said that he wanted to perpetrate acts of terror in protest."

SOUNDBITE (Ukrainian) Vasyl Hrytsak, head of the Security Service of Ukraine:

"The targets were A Muslim mosque, a Jewish synagogue, a tax collection office, police patrol points and many other place. As I said, there were 15 terrorists attacks planned."
