SOUNDBITE (English) Martin O'Neill, Republic of Ireland coach:

(on the controversy surrounding Roy Keane)

"It's only a distraction, I think that's all it was and really, I've made a statement earlier on today. I don't know whether you have seen it. Hardly seen it myself, you know, so... and I think that there's not really much more I can talk about, so... but I think we're fine. I think the players are fine. I think the man in question is fine as well and we're ready to go."

SOUNDBITE (English) Martin O'Neill, Republic of Ireland coach:

(on injuries to Glenn Whelan and James McCarthy)

"Well, naturally they are, Glenn (Whelan, Stoke City midfielder) has played games for us just recently... but just yesterday, he didn't feel as if he'd done enough work to contemplate being chosen for the team and James (McCarthy, Everton midfielder), I suppose, realistically, possibly, was always and outside chance. He has improved immensely since Sunday, in fact he went for another scan and the scan is actually quite clear, so that is really good news, good news for the lad, but really I suppose, because it is a muscle injury, it was a concern for us that he needed to really, probably do something today and see what kind of reaction he had."

SOUNDBITE (English) Robbie Keane, Republic of Ireland captain:

(on how the team will approach the game)

"... These are the games that players want to be involved in. These are the games and we haven't had a competitive game like this against a rival for a while, so it's certainly exciting."
