Chris Coleman jokes about Wales contract after Euro 2016 success

CONTRACT JOKER: Coleman is all smiles despite missing out on a golden ticket

Coleman agreed a new two-year deal worth £700,000 after qualifying for Euro 2016.

But he could demand twice that now after leading the Dragons to the semi-finals.

Coleman said: "I had only just signed just before we came out.

"My staff are making fun. They said my timing was not always the best as a player and it's the same now as a manager with my contract.

"If they wanted to talk to me about another contract I would be cashing in a bit, wouldn't I?

"It's the same if I jumped ship and went somewhere else because we had done well at a tournament but I would not feel right.

"I have signed a good contract and I am looking forward to the campaign."

Coleman insists - win or lose - that this will be his last campaign in charge of Wales as he wants to go back into club management.

He said: "I'm sure this will be my last campaign whether we qualify or not.

"That will be six or seven years in the job which is a long time. But I would not consider going anywhere else. I want to see this through."

More than 200,000 fans lined the streets of Cardiff yesterday (FRI) to welcome the team home.

And they only have two months to wait before Wales kick-off their 2018 World Cup qualifiers when Coleman's men will be marked men.

Coleman said: "There is going to be a different pressure on us from now on. People will not be happy with just plucky-old Wales.

"They will expect us to deliver and that's the next step for us."
