TEAM GAME Gareth Bale plays down talk of showdown with Cristiano Ronaldo in Euro 2016 semi-final
Saturday, July 02, 2016 Source: Thesun.co.ukGareth Bale has played down talk of a duel between himself and Cristiano Ronaldo in the Euro 2016 semi-finals.
The two most expensive players in world football history will come face-to-face as Wales booked their place in the last-four of a major tournament and get ready to play Portugal in Lyon.
The clash is already being billed as a showdown between the two Real Madrid frontmen.
However, Bale insists there will be many more important players on show.
He said: "There's going to be talk of that but's Wales versus Portugal. It's 11 men versus 11 men and we'll give it a right go.
"We're full of confidence. We're enjoying our football. We're enjoying the journey and we'll look forward to that game."
Goals from Ashley Williams, Hal Robson-Kanu and Sam Vokes earned Wales a sensational 3-1 victory against the No.2 side in the Fifa rankings, Belgium, to reach the last-four.
They will now face Portugal, who knocked out Poland in the quarter-finals on penalty.
Bale will face Ronaldo for the fifth time in his career, having lost every time.
Their first meeting was in a 2009 FA Cup third round tie at Old Trafford which saw Manchester United come from behind to beat Tottenham 2-1.
It was at Wembley when the two teams faced off again — and Sir Alex Ferguson's men were victorious on penalties.
Bale played the last four minutes as the pair met at Old Trafford in the Premier League that season — with the Red Devils famously winning 5-2.
They met again the Champions League quarter-finals as Real Madrid beat Tottenham 4-0 at the Bernabeu 1-0 at White Hart Lane.
