Switzerland vs Poland - Kamil Glik makes case for Polish defence before Switzerland showdown
Saturday, June 25, 2016 Source: PAPoland's mean defence have no intention of letting Switzerland ruin their proud clean sheet record.
The Poles have yet to concede a goal at Euro 2016 and defender Kamil Glik wants to keep it that way in their last-16 clash in St Etienne on Saturday.
"You could even say it has been four matches without conceding, because of our last pre-Euro game against Lithuania (a goalless draw), although that was a friendly so perhaps it doesn't count," Torino captain Glik told UEFA.com.
"Either way, it is three or four. We worked hard in the training camps ahead of the Euro. We put in some hard, painstaking work.
"We repeated a number of training drills on movement, over and over. That allowed us to build up an automatic understanding among the defence and midfield.
"The whole team has improved on this front. And it's nice to see that this hard work is paying off at such a crucial time."
Poland took seven points in Group C to finish runners-up to Germany, with whom they drew 0-0, but are not taking the Swiss lightly.
"They have some good players in midfield in Granit Xhaka, Blerim Dzemaili and Valon Behrami, as well as Haris Seferovic up front, and good players at the back," added Glik. "They work well together."
Striker Seferovic claims Switzerland are capable of going all the way to the final.
The Swiss came second in Group A behind France, courtesy of a win over Albania and draws with Romania and the hosts.
They narrowly avoided a meeting with the world champions, but are still expecting a tough encounter.
"We could have got Germany, but Poland are very difficult to play," Seferovic told UEFA.com.
"We have showed our qualities so far, but we have to stay positive, work hard and we'll see what happens on Saturday.
"We're not looking far ahead, but everything is possible, even the final.
"It will be a tough game. We have seen (Switzerland's) matches, they hold the ball very well, they have a few really good players.
"It is the last 16 so we must be extremely focused. Tactics and preparation will play a crucial role."
