Gareth Bale insists Wales won't be relying on England to secure Euro 2016 knockout berth

Gareth Bale has been capped 57 times since making his Wales debut in 2006

Bale netted from set-pieces against Slovakia and England to put him alongside Michel Platini, Thomas Hassler and club boss Zinedine Zidane in the select band of players to score from two free-kicks at the Euros. No one has scored three.

And he has lifted the lid on the technique and methods he uses to keep goalkeepers on edge, having already confounded Matus Kozacik and Joe Hart.

"With the free-kick I scored in the first game I knew the goalkeeper was going to gamble and that's why I went that way," he said. "But we did our research and I knew Joe Hart was not going to gamble if I have a free-kick. He can't afford to because if it goes in on the keeper's side they really do get the blame.

"With the third game I don't know what I'm going to do. I put a lot of practice in. Even now after training I'm there for an extra 10 or 15 minutes hitting balls and doing what I normally do when I'm at Madrid and when I was Tottenham.

"I've always enjoyed taking them. I used to curl them before but I started a different technique because I found it more exciting. It can go 50 yards over the bar but then it can look even better when it goes in."

Bale said he and his team-mates are ready to show Euro 2016 the real Wales and ensure they do not need any favours from England.

All four teams in Group B are still capable of finishing in the top two, or being among the four best third-placed finishers to advance.

A win will guarantee Wales go through but any other outcome will leave them waiting on other results, including the outcome of England v Slovakia, before discovering their fate.

But Bale has urged his team-mates to take care of their own business and make sure there is no need for an anxious wait for news from Saint-Etienne and elsewhere.

"A few of the boys have been looking at the permutations but in the end we say, 'Just win lads'," he said. "If we do that then we do not have to look at the other game.

"Of course it would be devastating to go out but we don't really want to think about that. I don't think anyone has thought about that.

"We're a positive group and if we stick together and work hard on the pitch we always give ourselves a chance. We were unlucky maybe not to get out with a point against England but we all believe that if we keep working hard and keep showing that same spirit and passion I think we'll definitely go through.

"Maybe the stakes are higher in this last game but I think the boys feel more relaxed. We know what we need to do and we're actually really looking forward to it."

Facing Russia with qualification on the line will bring back painful memories for Welsh supporters, some 13 years after the Dragons efforts to qualify for Euro 2004 ended in play-off heartache.

Bale and Joe Allen were among the current generation who were in the Principality Stadium that night and he is keen to ensure there is no repeat at the Stadium de Toulouse.

"I was actually at the game with my dad and a few of my friends, I was very young," said Bale.

"I still remember it but that was the past and this is now. No one's even thinking of that experience, we want to go in with a fresh mind. We want to play like we've been doing and hopefully get the win."

Wales boss Chris Coleman is expected to stick with the same side despite the quick turnaround from the gut-wrenching defeat by England, with Joe Ledley expected to be fit enough to overcome a calf problem.

Coleman, meanwhile, has promised that it will not be the end of the road for Wales side if they are eliminated tomorrow night.

"Everybody will look at this as the be-all and end-all," he said. "Whether we progress or we don't, it’s not the end of the journey for this team.

"This team has got the potential to go on and on, there's more to come from these players in the future.

"Nobody wants this tournament to end. This is our first taste of major tournament football, it's amazing, it’s fantastic. It's tough, relentless. Whenever it is our time to go home, the team will take so much from this."
