France vs Switzerland - Lloris eyeing top spot as France end group stage against Switzerland

France captain Hugo Lloris has stressed the importance of the host nation meeting expectations ahead of Sunday's Group A clash with Switzerland.

Les Bleus have started their campaign with two wins from as many games, sealing their qualification for the last 16.

They have, though, been somewhat unconvincing in seeing off Romania 2-1 and Albania 2-0, with late goals securing victory on each occasion.

On Sunday they face a Switzerland side who are second in the pool on four points and also targeting top spot.

And at a press conference to preview the fixture in Lille, goalkeeper Lloris said: "Our first target is to win the match.

"And finishing top is something we have to achieve because we do have a certain status within the group and we need to meet people's expectations. We need to complete the job.

"The most important thing is to win the match, which helps to breed confidence."

Lloris said he expects Sunday's contest to be "a more fun game to play" for France than their previous two due to Switzerland being less likely to focus on defending than Romania and Albania.

And that sentiment has been echoed by France boss Didier Deschamps, who said at the press conference: "Against Romania and Albania to an even greater extent, it was tricky because of how they set up.

"I'm not saying it will be easier against Switzerland, because they have a lot of ability, particularly in their forward line.

"But at least we'll have two teams who try to play the game, and that leads us to think there might be a bit more football and fewer fouls."

Deschamps admitted it is "not ideal" his side have been unable to train on the pitch at Lille's Stade Pierre-Mauroy due to its condition, but he is confident they will cope.

"It's not ideal but we encountered that in Brazil (at the World Cup) two years ago as well," he said.

"What is important is we have the best pitch possible, and apparently if we don't train (on it) that will make things slightly better. It is a shame, but we will adapt."

One player who has certainly adapted to the tournament so far is France midfielder Dimitri Payet, scorer of two fine goals.

And Deschamps, who was giving little away about whether he would rotate his players on Sunday, said of West Ham's Payet: "He has always had technical ability, but he has also gained in confidence.

"He knows now the top level is demanding and he really is contributing a lot."
