Hungary coach Bernd Storck claimed a dream had come true as he celebrated a 2-0 Euro 2016 victory over Austria.

Goals from Adam Szalai and Zoltan Stieber saw Storck's side claim a surprise win over their 10-man neighbours in their Group F clash in Bordeaux.

It was the Hungarians' first match in a tournament since 1986 and their first in the finals of the European Championship for 44 years.

``You can see how the fans reacted, that was brilliant,'' said Storck at his post-match press conference. ``A dream has come true. We hoped for it, we wished for it.

``When everyone does their hard work then it pays off. A huge compliment to everyone who helped make sure that we could decide this game.

``We knew what to expect from Austria and we knew what their strengths were. We took their important players out of the game which was key, and that was vital to our success.''

Hungary had an early scare when David Alaba hit a post in the first minute but their overall performance was superior.

Szalai put them ahead just after the hour - his first goal at any level for 18 months - and Stieber wrapped up victory late on after Aleksandar Dragovic was sent off for two bookable offences.

Storck said: ``At the start you need a bit of luck, which we had with the shot from Alaba on the post, but then we were more secure and the players woke up.

``We always tried to score going forward and what we did in the second half was brilliant. We scored a fantastic goal through Szalai, a huge compliment to him, he got his reward for a hard-working performance. The second goal was well worked, a classic counter.''

Austria coach Marcel Koller claimed his players were nervous and failed to make the most of their early openings.

He said: ``It was a good start to the match, we had some good combination play, but the more the match went on the more nervous we got and we let the Hungarians in.

``We were playing against a good Hungarian team that took advantage of this and then we had the red card which made things even more difficult for us.

``There's never a good time to concede a goal, but that was a very, very bad time. It gave them energy and made things even more difficult for us.

``The nervousness is tough to judge. I haven't spoken to the players yet. It's going to be a tight group. We need to keep our heads up, shake it off and give it all again.''
