GLAM REFEREE: Amy Christophers has given a quick rundown of this 'beautiful game'

To help you out if you fall into that category here is our bluffer's guide to the tournament by glamour girl turned referee Amy Christophers.

* She has all the facts and hints to help you blag your way through the competition and impress your mates down the pub.

* Amy, below, says: "I am here to give you a quick rundown of the beautiful game and which players and teams to look out for at the Euros."

Some random facts about the teams to impress your friends:

* England are the only European team to have won the World Cup but not the European Championship. They qualified for Euro 2016 with a 100% record – only the sixth nation to ever win every European Championship qualifi er in a campaign.

They will have the youngest squad in France with an average age of 25 years and 308 days.

* Russia, who played England last night in their opening Euro 2016 fixture, are the only finalists who did not score a header in qualifying.

* Spain's 36-match unbeaten run in World Cup or Euro qualifiers was ended by Slovakia in October 2014. However, Spain won their remaining eight games and set a national record of eight consecutive clean sheets in competitive matches.

* Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo could become the fi rst player to score at four European Championships if he finds the back of the net in France.

*Austria were ranked at an all-time low of 105th in the world after their only other appearance at the European Championship, the one they co-hosted with Switzerland in 2008. They rose as high as 10th following an unbeaten qualifying campaign.

* Switzerland have finished bottom of their group in each of their three previous Euros, winning only one of nine matches.

WORLD CHAMPS: England are the only European team to have won the World Cup but not the Euros

* Turkey have improved every time they have competed at the European Championship: group stage in 1996, quarter-finals in 2000, semi-finals in 2008.

* Romania have played 13 matches at European Championship finals. Their only victory came courtesy of a last minute penalty to beat England in 2000.

* The Republic of Ireland will have the oldest squad at Euro 2016 – with an average age of 29 years and 297 days. Three of their players have won more than 100 caps – Robbie Keane (143), Shay Given (134) and John O'Shea (111).

* Albania had 28 shots on target in qualifying – fewer than any side who made it to Euro 2016, and only one fewer than Gibraltar, who finished pointless with a goal difference of -54 at the bottom of Group D.

Extra time explained and those dreaded penalties: IF there is no winner by the end of the 90 mins it then goes into "extra time" giving the teams another half hour to try and score a winner.

It's split into two 15 min sections and swap goal ends at half time. Then if a winner still hasn't arisen it goes to those dreaded penalties.

In a penalty shoot-out each team takes turns attempting a specified number of shots (5) from the penalty spot with the team scoring the most goals being declared the winner.

If scores are tied it goes to sudden death. Don't worry though. No-one gets shot – it's just a term for it going on until someone misses.

Phrases to shout at the TV at crucial moments: IF an opposing player is tackled shout: "Get up you big pansy." Or your team commits a foul shout: "Great tackle."

If one of your players is tackled in the penalty box, bellow: "That has got to be a penalty."

As soon as the referee blows his whistle to get your team's match started make sure you say one of these things: "I've waited four years for this moment......come ON!!", "We've got this in the bag', or " No more years of hurt" and high-five someone.
