NUMBER ONE: Hugo Lloris
Didier Deschamps and his side go into the tournament as favourites to take full advantage of being on home soil and emerge triumphant at Euro 2016.
And Spurs stopper Lloris believes France, who lifted the trophy in 2000, have got just the right blend of experience and youth, allied to genuine world-class ability, to fulfil that top billing.
The French No.1, with 73 caps to his name, said: “It’s all about the team and the spirit. Under manager Deschamps we are always improving. "
And when you see the talented players we have in the team, then we are right to have belief coming into the competition.”
One possible hitch for the French in Group A is that they have not been involved in a competitive fixture since the last World Cup.
That, according to Lloris, could well mean they are undercooked.
However, the flip side to that is they are itching to get going in front of their own fans.
The France and Spurs skipper, 29, went on: “After two years without a real game – we have only had friendlies – we’ll have to see how we perform and go.
"But the is truth is we are very, very hungry for proper competition – and we will try do something good for our country.
"We can feel the expectations around us but that’s normal. We a are big nation and a big football nation. The people expect to see the national team in the spotlight.
"It really depends on us, the players, to give the right energy out on the pitch. If we do that then the whole country, all the people and the fans, will follow and support us.
"It’s very important to make good preparations together – physically and mentally. If we do this we will be as competitive as possible.”
If he is optimistic about France’s chances, Lloris is also backing England, who have five Spurs stars in their squad, to have an excellent tournament.
He added: “I’m really confident for England. They have talented young players, not just at Spurs but across the Premier League.
"I know the Spurs players, they will bring hunger.”
