MANCHESTER UNITED have confirmed Marcus Rashford has signed a new four-year contract until 2020 with an option of another year.

The 18-year-old has had a remarkable rise to prominence, making a goalscoring debut in February to being on the brink of an England call-up to Euro 2016.

"I am delighted to have signed a new contract," he said.

"I have always been a Manchester United fan, so to be playing in the first team really is a dream come true.

"I am grateful for having the chance to prove myself.

"To be able to play football at the biggest club in the world means everything to me and my family."

Rashford scored twice on his United debut against Midtjylland in the Europa League and has not looked back since.

In 17 appearances he has scored eight goals, with strikes against Arsenal and Manchester City.

And on Friday night he became England's third-youngest goalscorer of all time with a volley scored 135 seconds into his international debut.

"Marcus is a naturally talented footballer with great potential," executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward said.

"He has taken his chances well and has integrated into the first team very quickly.

"I am delighted that Marcus has signed a new contract, he is at the right club to continue his development.

"He is still very young and we need to be patient but he is developing in the right way and we believe he has a great future ahead of him."

Rashford could face competition for a first-team place in new manager Jose Mourinho's side next season as the Portuguese boss looks to sign his own players this summer.

Sweden sensation Zlatan Ibrahimovic is out of contract next month and has been offered a deal to join Mourinho at Old Trafford.

Mourinho could, meanwhile, axe six first team players before the start of next season, with Spanish media linking Juan Mata with a move to Barcelona.
