Bayern legend was 90 years old

Former coach Dettmar Cramer, who led Bayern Munich to European Cup glory in 1975 and 1976, has passed away at the age of 90.

Aside from managing Bayern, Kramer had stints in charge of Eintracht Frankfurt, Bayern Leverkusen and Hertha Berlin, as well as being one of Germany coach Helmut Schön's assistants during the 1966 World Cup.

"To many, Dettmar Cramer was more than just a major figure in football. To me, he was a father figure - the most important in my career when I started out as a professional", said Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.

"I have him to thank for having enjoyed so much success as a player", added the former Germany international.

Cramer was Udo Lattek's successor at Bayern, taking over the reins on 16th January 1975 as the reigning European champions were struggling for form in the Bundesliga.

Club captain Franz Beckenbauer was one of Cramer's most loyal advocates through thick and thin as the coach had supported 'Der Kaiser', especially when he was under scrutiny for getting a girl pregnant out of wedlock and temporarily frozen out of the international scene.
