England boss Roy Hodgson dented Andy Carroll's Euro 2016 chances
The injury-ravaged West Ham striker has roared back to form and fitness with a hat-trick in his sides’ 3-3 draw with Arsenal last week.
Carroll’s last appearance for England was in October 2012 as a substitute against San Marino. His return to fitness though has sparked calls for Hodgson to recall the big target man.
But Hodgson said: “Who do people want me to leave out? We have such a wealth of talent in attack. If I decide to go for Carroll, I’m going to be criticised for leaving out one of the other forwards.
"I find it disrespectful that a player that virtually doesn’t play for a year, the moment he scores a goal people want him in the team.
"If you had a lot of places you’d include him.
"It’s not out of the question because he’s English, he’s scoring, a centre-forward, a good player. But I’m not going to pick him on the basis of a hat-trick.
"We had the best qualifying campaign England has ever had. Before we start throwing out guys for the latest ice cream flavour, we should show respect to what they have done.”
